The Woodsy Bee
About Me
Hello and welcome! My name is Brandy, I am a 2026 graduate of the Camosun College Fine Furniture/Joinery Foundations program. After 20+ years in the veterinary industry, I decided I needed a creative outlet that allows me to work with my hands, create beautiful pieces from real wood, and occasionally smack something with a mallet.
My Ethos:
I want to build pieces that showcase the beauty of wood and wouldn't look out of place in nature. I believe in using wood that is local as much as possible, as well as reclaiming/reusing/repurposing pieces that still have a ton of life left in them. I'm a big fan of Mother Nature, and I strongly believe that humankind has a responsibility to "do no harm", or as little harm as possible. To that end, my indoor pieces get environmentally friendly finishes such as hardwax oil (eg: Osmo, Tried and True) or a beeswax/oil combo. This means the wood will need yearly maintenance, but the beautiful finish is worth the effort. My outdoor pieces, such as bird/owl/bat houses, are generally made with untreated cedar with no exterior finish. It will eventually rot, degrade, and decompose, and that is as it should be.
My Work:
I intend to offer a variety of handmade, real wood pieces: indoor and outdoor furniture and smaller gift items such as page holders, soap dishes, or coasters. I am also very open to collaborating with clients to bring their dream projects to fruition. Please don't hesitate to contact me to discuss the possibilities!
